The purpose is to offer an appropriate social outlet for our Jewish Youth in a highly structured and organized setting. Our youth groups and programs are part and parcel of the National Federation of Temple Youth. The Youth Group provides a wide variety of experiences and activities such as: Shul-ins, sports and sporting events, bowling, skating, skiing, picnics and dances, mystery bus rides, Broadway shows, amusement parks, holiday celebrations, arts and crafts. Temple boasts a vibrant and active program for High School students, the Spring Valley Federation of Temple Youth (SVFTY). Our first goal is to provide a healthy social environment, organized around Temple life, for Jewish teens to meet and interact. Experienced advisors lead this extensive and varied program which includes: dances holiday celebrations sports trips, sporting events Broadway shows Shabbat dinners and creative worship fund-raising, social action, and mitzvah projects weekend kallot and regional conventions
We are also part of a larger region (NFTY-GER) which sponsors events where our teens get together with those from other Reform synagogues. Our second objective is educational: to teach our children, in enjoyable and innovative ways, about Jewish life. A third goal is social action: to demonstrate though word and deed our commitment to helping others, both Jew and non-Jew, in their time of need. Finally, we aim to give our youth a feeling of belonging in our own synagogue as an active and involved part of our Temple family. The teens who join SVFTY make enduring friendships and develop pride in being Jewish, with a sincere commitment to our Temple and Jewish life.
