"Adult Jewish learning is a priority of the Reform Movement, part of the lifelong pursuit of Jewish literacy and intellectual growth." Union of Reform Judaism, 2004

The Adult Education Committee has provided many varied learning experiences for Temple’s congregation including Hebrew classes, Tastes of Judaism, field trips, Rabbi and Cantor’s lectures, guest speakers, Torah topics, mini-kallahs and international Passover Seders.

Joining frequently with the other arms of Temple, the committee seeks to bring programming to a wider audience. Adult Education, Men’s Club and Women of Reform Judaism presented a fun-filled and delicious Lower East Side Experience which included a Yiddish Theater Troupe Performance. The Outreach Committee has combined with Adult Education to provide Read Hebrew America classes and interfaith marriage programs. The Holocaust Torah Committee and Adult Education co-sponsored an Israeli Kibbutz Seder which was written by survivors of the Holocaust.

Look here for bits of information on where, when and how you can sample Judaism in movies, books, the internet, exhibits, programs and more. If you have any items you wish to share, please send me an email, Susan Klein (rsdsk@aol.com).  Your help is always welcome.

Exploring Your Jewish Identity

EXPLORING YOUR JEWISH IDENTITY

A participatory workshop led by Beth Kramer, Educational Director.
Join us for a special and memorable morning as we explore the following issues:

· Who Am I?
· What makes me Jewish?
· What are my most important Jewish values?
· Am I a Jewish American or an American Jew? Is there a difference?
· What are my most important Jewish memories and what do they contribute to the Jew that I am today?
· What role does gender play in my own Jewish identity?
· What objects would you choose to go into a time capsule to represent different times in Jewish history, and why?
· What is your deepest, darkest "Jewish Secret?"

Refreshments will be served.
No experience necessary! Bring a friend!
All are welcome!

Jimmy Carter's ''Palestine Peace Not Apartheid" has been getting a lot of press. Abraham Foxman from ADL wrote a letter to the editor of the New York Times on January 28, 2007 stating "Carter's anti-Israel bias as reflected in his offensive and inaccurate use of the term ''apartheid'' is bad enough. Contributing to conspiracy theories about Jews is even worse and is playing with fire." If you have read the book and want to share your thoughts about it, please contact me.

Eldridge

Rona and Andy Fogel together with Susan Klein at the Eldridge St. Synagogue.  The trip to the Eldridge St. Synagogue was an adult Ed program on July 20.  The Synagogue is the oldest Synagogue in the US constructed by an Eastern European congregation.  A $20 million,  20 year renovation project was just completed.  The Synagogue is still functioning as a Synagogue but is also a museum.  It is a beautiful building. All of the great cantors of the late 19 and 20th centuries sang at this Synagogue.
